Remembering and Honoring...

In remembering and honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I wish to share his favorite song. He had many favorite hymns, but "Take My Hand, Precious Lord" was at the top. This song saw him through many a difficult time. It was also sung at his funeral by Mahalia Jackson. Take a moment to soak in the words and listen to the incredible voice on the video below.

Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on; let me stand
I am tired; I am weak and worn
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand, precious Lord
Lead me home

When my way grows dreary
Precious Lord, lead me near
When my life is almost gone
Hear my cry, hear my call
Hold my hand, lest I fall
Take my hand, precious Lord
Lead me home

When the darkness appears
And the night draws near
And the day is past and gone
At the river I stand
Guide my feet, hold my hand
Take my hand, precious Lord
Lead me home

“Take My Hand, Precious Lord” (aka “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”) is a gospel song. The lyrics were written by Rev. Thomas A. Dorsey (1899–1993), and the melody by George Nelson Allen (1812–1877).

See you next week.
Between you, me and the gatepost,
