Wish Upon A Falling Star

I’m a sky watcher. I’ve always been one. My dad got me interested when I was a child. He was one. He always had a telescope or awesome binoculars. First time I saw Orion's Nebula...I was hooked. We would look at the clouds during the day, then sunset, and the moon, planets, and stars at night. We also made sure that we saw the monthly, yearly, or special celestial events and rare Northern Lights displays over Lake Michigan. One of my favorite celestial events is the Perseid Meteor Shower. It’s near the end of the second week in August every year. Yep, that’s this week.

EarthSky says the best viewing will be on the 12th and 13th.

You can always see meteors streaking the sky 3 days before and after this date. I saw one tonight. I hope you will take time to take a look for a shooting star or two…
Sky watching is something that I passed down to my kids. We are always together during this week as a send off to the "technical" end of summer. This year is an exception. One daughter is in Edinburgh, Scotland for a 10 day visit with a friend who lives there. Another daughter is in Ohio on Lake Erie. She's on the peninsula at a cottage for some end of summer fun. My son is down in Indianapolis. He will return home on Sunday. He finishes his internship on Friday. No matter where we are, far apart, we will take the time to gaze up at the stars and think of one another.

We share that common bond…and love.
I love to look up to God’s beautiful heavens. Space is so endless. It gives me a creative mind as I look and watch. I dream up stories to write and send up prayers of praise and thanks. When my mom saw a shooting star, instead of saying “Make a wish…” she would say “Quick, say a prayer to Jesus. Someone needs a blessing.” Somehow, that always stuck in my head. To this day, when I see a shooting star, I say a prayer.

I will sing of the Lord's great love forever;
with my mouth I will make your faithfullness known through all generations.
I will declare that your love stands firm forever;
that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself.
~Psalm 89:1-2

Whether you say a prayer or make a wish. I hope your blessings or dreams come to pass.

Do you stargaze or skywatch?  I would love to hear from you.
Between you, me and the gatepost,
Loree

AND NOW A SPECIAL THANKS:

I would like to send an ENORMOUS thank you to Rachel Brooks! Rachel awarded me with my first ever blog award.  Rachel has an awesome blog and I read it often, so go on over to her blog and check out what she’s got going on. It touched my heart that she thought my blog was worthy of an award.

What award? Well, the Liebster Blog Award of course! (Yeah, I didn't know what that meant either ;)

The Liebster Blog Award is for blogs that have under 200 followers. This award is a great way to share some blogging love, get people’s names out there, and help bloggers build up their followers.

There are some rules that come with the Liebster Blog Award. Yes, rules! Don’t roll your eyes though.

1. Thank the person who gave you this award and link back to them.
2. Give away the Liebster Blog award away to 5 bloggers blogs.  Let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.
3. Copy and paste the award on your blog.
4. Have faith that your followers will spread the love to other bloggers.
5. And best of all - have blogging fun!
6. No pressure here (I’m adding this one) If you don’t want to or don’t have the time to pass it along…no biggie. I know we’re all busy and have an agenda to follow. Just do it if it feels right.

There are so many awesome bloggers out there that I wish I could put them all. I know some bloggers are on vacation, moving, or just unplugging for a week or two.

Okay, here are the five fabulous bloggers who have been awarded the Liebster Blog Award!
Check out their fabulous blogs:

Beautiful post, Loree. I love the stars as do my children but, as some people say, we never slow down enough to smell the roses...in this case, watch the sky :) I think I'll do a better job after reading this. There is nothing like lying flat-backed on a blanket in the grass gazing at a beautiful night sky.

Thanks for posting :)

Loree, you do the neatest things! Beautiful post! I love to look at the stars and the moon especially when it's full or orange! Never used telescopes though. :(

Thanks for the award and thinking of me!!

Thanks so much Loree! It's funny how all the links are coming together and pointing me your way. I was watching a hummer stick her long, slender tongue into the feeder and thought of how we both appreciate hummers; your post about the Perseid meteor shower reminded me of how much my hubby and I like to watch them on our anniversary, which is today; and now you've given me a blog award!

*chills* Spooky, huh?

Thanks so much for thinking of me and passing on the award! By the way, I've been on a self-hosted blog for the past few months, so my address is: kbowenmysteries.com

The blogspot address still directs to that site, so it works out. :)

My two-year-old loves to look at the moon and stars. I used to live within walking distance to Lake Michigan~ I'm so jealous of your Northern Lights sighting! Congrats on the blog award :)

Thanks for sharing the critique group story in your comment on my blog~ that must have been hard to witness :(

Kathy: Thanks for correcting your blog address. I had just copied and pasted from my reader. I’ll fix it on my post.

Yeah to the spooky and *chills* ha!

I still have two lady hummers and a male who feeds in the evening.
I think a third has come because when I'm out on the back deck, there is a lot of squeaking and chasing going on. I also have something funny to share with you – I have two feeders – one on the back deck hanging from our balcony and one in the front…I have a covered front porch so it’s protected…well, last week, when we still had that incredibly hot 90 plus degree weather, a female Downy Woodpecker was hanging from the feeder, drinking (sticking her beak in the holes!!!) my homemade nectar. I do a 4 to 1 mix…boiled 3 minutes. I could not believe it! I had seen orioles do it, but never a woodpecker. She’s been back several times. She really has a sweet tooth!

Happy Anniversary to you and yours!!! I wish you many, many more. Enjoy and celebrate! My hubby and I celebrate on the 22nd.

Jess: Keep encouraging your precious child. They really appreciate it when they are older. We can always share the sky.

Love your blog!!

Thanks you Kathy and Jess for popping in!

Congrats on your blog award, Loree!

And, yes, I love looking at the sky too. Hubby and I always make a point of showing each other interesting clouds in the sky.

Loree, congratulations on your award! And the pictures look great.

I used to have a telescope as a child. Now I point out the constellations whenever they can be seen. They're great reminders of God's magnificence.

Have a great weekend!

Rachel Brooks said...

Congrats on the award! You totally deserve it ;)

Also, I love the picture of the sunrise. So peaceful and beautiful!

Have an awesome weekend!

Confession: I'm not sure how to grab the code for the award, lol!

Squeak (Dorothy): Thanks for stopping in and following! Welcome here! I'll come visit your blog.

Eileen: I love clouds!

Brandi: Are you moved?!?! How'd it go? Haven't heard so assumed everything went good. Looking forward to catching up at your blog.

Rachel: Thanks again for the award!
You're a real peach!

Gwen: Thanks for the well wishes! and you deserve a great award today too!

I don't know how I did it. It was a total fluke. I copied from Rachels blog into Word. I wrote out my post on Word. Then copied and pasted into the blog post. The image didn't show when I went to post but the square was there. I clicked on square (like I was going to copy it) then clicked image - browse - then a window popped up with the Liebster Blog award image. I hit select and it was there...like I said...total fluke.

Thank you - Dorothy, Eileen, Brandi, Rachel, and Gwen for your lovely comments!

Loree, my kids and I were up last night and saw the international space station streaking across our sky. We weren't able to see the meteor shower, or maybe we did and didn't recognize it!

Loree Huebner said...

Julie: Awesome! You can see the space station. It looks different than a high altitude jet. It just moves in a steady star like streak.
(It looks like a moving star)

Thanks for stopping in.
