Turning seasons...

Can you feel summer growing tired? Autumn has a foot in the door. The days are still warm, but the nights are getting cooler. Still hardly noticeable, the days are also getting shorter.

Can you feel the changing seasons? I can. Even though you don’t see it here in the Great Lakes region, you can feel beginning of autumn's arrival on the breeze—you can smell it.

The summer of 2012 seemed long to me. Maybe it was the extremely hot summer-like weather we experienced early on when it was still spring. As we officially say goodbye to summer with the Labor Day holiday, I feel relief. A long deep breath escapes from my body. I can breathe again.

The fall has always been my most productive season. It’s my favorite season of all—maybe that's because I was born in autumn—it’s my spring so-to-speak. I’m also in an unexpected writing season which I’m enjoying immensely.

Have you experienced a change of seasons where you live? What turn of season are you experiencing in your life? What is your favorite season?

Have a happy and safe holiday! If you're taking a break - ENJOY!

Between you, me and the gatepost,

Loree

Look for Author, Jocelyn Green to visit The Civil War Bivouac on Monday, September 17th. I will be asking her a few questions about her new novel Wedded to War. And…Jocelyn has graciously offered to give away a signed copy to one lucky commenter that week…so keep an eye out for that!

I leave you with
Ecclesiastes 3:3-8

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

I am gently reminded of the 1960’s band, The Byrds, who put these words to music…To everything…turn…turn…turn…

My favorite season is Spring. I'm not really a Kentucky Autumn fan as it gets too cold for me, but the colors are very pretty. Thanks for sharing the verses from Ecclesiastes. That's what I keep reminding myself. This crazy time in my life is just a season. :-)

I've noticed the shorter days too, which makes it easier to put my kids down at bedtime. :) Like you, I'm excited to escape the heat of summer and head into fall.

Hope you had a great Labor Day, Loree!

Our leaves started falling weeks ago, due to the drought, but we're still enjoying summer days. Got an hour in the neighbor's pool this afternoon and decided that I'm not ready for summer to be over. :)

Its a toss up for me between spring and fall. I love the spring flowers, song bird migrations and trout fishing. I love the fall colors, the harvests, and the crisp invigorating air. Winter not so much any more though....

Spring is starting to make itself known here in Oz. I'm looking forward to more crispy salads, but I'll miss the colder weather.

Gwen: Take each season one at a time...that's all we can do.

Sarah: This summer has been so hot. I know down state it's been really bad with the drought. Maybe the fall will bring relief.

Sandra: Wow! Your leaves are falling already! I guess you are way up north there...I probably would hate to see summer go too.

trout:I'm the same as you - winter is not so fun anymore. I do get a lot of writing done in the winter.

Lynda:Oh yes, Lynda, you are on the other side - down under. How fun that you are getting spring now! Spring seems so far away up here.

Thanks for chiming in everyone. I love reading your comments.

Noticing a slight reprieve from the heat here in GA too! Fall is my favorite time of year as well - a time to regroup and focus on projects (writing and otherwise). Especially looking forward to a Getaway to Write sponsored by editor, Pam Johnson at the end of this week! Have a great week, Loree!

I sense the days getting shorter here, too. I love autumn and winter. The summer heat is too much for me, even though I was born in August, lol. I feel I'm more productive in the colder months.

Maria: Enjoy "Getaway to Write". Sounds fun! Have a great time!

Brandi: The heat has really gotten to me too. We've got a cold front going through then 70's the rest of the week! Yay! I also feel that I'm more productive during the cold weather.

Maria and Brandi, thanks for popping in!

I so agree! I can sense autumn is nearing here - and already there is red color up on the mountains. Fall is my spring too - it feels more rejuvenating than spring, for me.

Loree - Autumn is my favorite season too. It still conjures up memories of #2 sharpend pencils, football games, and new school clothes. I find I am more easily motivated to write now, with the summer hubbub behind me. This was a beautiful post - thanks!

Yes, thankfully, I've noticed the nights getting colder. Not necessarily the days here in Chico, CA, where I moved to this summer. Like, Labor Day it was 98 degrees. In September? Whoa, I miss Oregon. LOL

I love those verses, and always think of that Byrds song when I read or hear them! The verses are comforting in that if you're going through a phase you don't necessarily like, it WILL pass.

Stacy: I bet the mountains are beautiful! Congrats on the release of you book, Lady Outlaw, this week!

Victoria: Oh Victoria, I remember those things too! Great fall memories.

Carol: It was in the 90's here last this week but a cold front is coming through and it's going to be in the 70's all weekend. Looking forward to it.

Thank you everyone! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I love to read your thoughts.

I normally love the summer, but it has been so hot here that I'm looking forward to fall!

Oh, I am loving this cooler weather after our long, dry, hot summer, Loree!

My favorite season is Spring, with new flowers, buds, and baby animals. I believe I'm in a Spring in my writing life right now, with a new wip on the way.

Thanks for asking!

Julie: I think that the heat has worn everyone out this summer.

Jeanette: I love how you talk about the spring, and you being in the spring of your writing life...awesome!

Julie and Jeanette, thanks for dropping in!

Hi Loree -

In mid-August, I noticed the veggie garden beginning to fade. Flowers seem to stretch toward the sun's dwindling rays.

Yes, fall is rushing toward us. Next week, we're supposed to have temperatures in the 40's. Ouch. My poor heating bill!

Blessings,
Susan :)

Susan - We were in the 50's last night and only a high in the 60's today. It feels like fall! Dipping into the 40's is getting cool.

Thanks for stopping in!
