"It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer."

I’ve been fighting with a stubborn kidney stone the past few days so my post this week will be brief. I’m fine and under my doctor’s care. Just having some discomfort and may have to go another round of antibiotics until the thing passes.

“Some Pig”

Last week, I ran across the quote used in my post title. It’s a quote by American author, E. B. White, and found myself able to quote the very next line…“Charlotte was both.” I knew the quote was taken from the incredible book written by White and first published in 1952 - Charlotte’s Web.

“Terrific”

I had forgotten how much I loved to read this story when I was a child. I was swept away by the tale. It was the first time I had experienced a story that touched me and drew me in. I was hooked by White’s very real characters in the barnyard. After reading the book, I swear I had been to Zuckerman’s farm. It’s such a beautifully written story of true friendship and how far one friend will go for another…in a way that a child can understand.  Now I’m sure that I don’t have to explain the plot of the story…and if by chance, you have not read the book…you should.

“Radiant”

This was the first book that put the writing idea into my mind and heart. Heck, Charlotte was a writer. Truth be told, reading the book woke up the writer in my young soul. Back then, I knew that someday I wanted to write a story like White had.

“Humble”

Did a book ever have an impact on you when you were a child? Reading or writing? If so, what was it? Please share your story. I would love to hear from you.

Between you, me and the gatepost,

Loree

I love the way you reminded me of Charlotte's messages in the web. The books that have had the most influence on me are by Jodi Piccoult. Man, that woman can spin a tale that hooks me in and makes me feel all kinds of emotions. Brilliant.

Julie: I have not read her work but hear she is an awesome writer. I think I'll put her on my reading list for next month. Thanks for the tip. As always, thanks for stopping in.

Loree: I'll be praying for you. My husband and one of my close friends have trouble with kidney stones. Hope you pass them soon.

I think I knew I wanted to write romance with suspense because of Sweet Valley High. I had every single one of them! I loved the trouble Jessica caused her twin Elizabeth and the mysteries they solved.

I also loved Charlotte's Web. You know it's good when a child boo hoo's over a spider--especially a child who hates spiders! :)

Jessica: Thank you for your warm thoughts and prayers. This is my second kidney stone. The doctor thinks I get/take too much calcium so I have to cut back.

I never read the Sweet Valley High series but my oldest daughter read some of them. She loved them too. Wasn't there a TV series?

I was about 7 the first time I read Charlotte's Web. It really touched me at that young age. I had read other books, but none like that one...and the characters were amazing. I knew then that I wanted to write someday.

Thanks again dropping by.

Loree, I hope you're on the mend soon!

The writing bug didn't hit me until later in life, though as a teenager I dreamt and dabbled with writing screen plays, but I was a mathie at heart back then so didn't realize it become much more than a hobby later in my life.

Eileen: I'm so happy you stopped by! Welcome! Thanks for the well wishes. I am feeling better. The writing thing was the same for me. I always knew that I would write, but it took a while for it to kick in. I started about ten years ago.

It was an old old huge and a little dusty King Arthur & The Knights of the Roundtable from the St. Paul public library. It had faded but still colorful "plates" of dragons and knights in shining armor. I've been hooked on stories of adventerous heroes ever since. Hmmm Maybe I should grow up. :)

troutbirder: nah, don't grow up...that book sounds fun! We all need to keep that inner child happy. Thanks for stopping by.
