Writing in Faith and Emotion

Near Aspen, CO - Photo by Loree Huebner

The blog title came from a full week of unusual circumstances that made me feel a whole boxful of feelings. Last week I think I touched every emotion – love, fear, hurt, anger, pride, joy, sadness, happiness, and everything in between. I know that when the moods unhinge and life’s ups and downs play hard on my heart, I can always look to God for wisdom and guidance. I can write even though I'm on the rollercoaster of life.

God knows what’s going on in my life and He will not hand me more than I can take…even though sometimes it feels like there is nothing…no way out…no understanding. He also knows when I’m at my happiest, feeling the joys of love and being alive. He knows my hopes, dreams, and desires of my heart, as well as my wants and needs. I know to trust in His perfect plan for my life. This trust gives me the strength to move through my days knowing that whatever happens…I will not have to face it alone. I can write through life's difficult moments, and I can write during the periods of bliss.
He knows I want to be a writer. He put the notion on my heart years before I ever put two sentences together. He gave me a direction to follow, a love of history, and a plot in my head. Even though my writing is not necessarily directed to a Christian audience, I write for His glory. He has recruited me to write stories that will touch the hearts of those who are on the fence with their faith, not so much for those who already know Him. This is my garden to tend...so I write.
As a writer, I strive to breathe my faith and emotions into some of my characters. Do you use your emotions or faith to guide your writing? Your characters? I would love to hear from you.
Just between you, me and the gatepost,
Loree

Loree, this is a beautiful post. I hope this week turns out to be on the bliss side for you.

I don't think a writer can keep their hopes, fears, experience out of their writing, really. That's what makes the journey so fulfilling. Often I resolve my own conflicts through the stories I write.

Eileen: Thanks for stopping by today. Yes, this week is on the bliss side. God has answered my prayers. I so agree with you on resolving of our own conflicts through our own stories. So much truth there.

I love the pictures. I remember the rock that seemed to have the face of Jesus. Very inspirational.

How is this week going so far? I hope well:) I try hard to breathe my emotions and faith into my words--not sure that I always capture what I want but I'm working on it. Praying your writing soars!

Terri: This week is good...no, great! Thank you for the prayer. I'm with you on - not always sure if I capture what I want, but definitely working on it. Thanks for popping in!

Loree, YES! Love the post and I think you are approaching it all the right way. Keep writing and keep your focus on Him and it will all work out, maybe not when or how you expect, but eventually things do happen!

Catherine, Thanks for coming by! I loved your post today on Rachelle Gardner's blog today. I can't wait to read your book. Congrats on your success! I do keep plugging along, trusting in Him all the way. I'm enjoying a small success right now as my hubby and I just signed a contract for an article. Things do happen!

Loree, this is so true. I've been dealing with a lot of crazy emotions the past few weeks, and as I prayed for God to mellow me out, to give me peace, I also recognized just having the feelings allows me to be a better writer. After all, I can tap into the exact emotions my characters will feel.

Oh, did you see the new movie coming out about the guy who shot Lincoln? I can't remember the name of it, but it's a one-worder that starts with C. Looks like a goodie!!

Jill: So good to hear from you! I've really enjoyed the Twitter 101 and will be using your tips soon...you make it so easy. I can't wait to see The Conspirator. It comes out next Friday. Redford directed it. I pray you get your spirit of peace soon. Emotions are good but we also need that peace in our heart.

I love this! I use my faith to guide me in breathing!!! I don't know how nonbelievers survive in this world. I really don't.
