Rainbow over Aspen - Aspen, CO - Photo by Loree Huebner |
Due to my crazy work and writing schedule, this week’s post will be short and sweet. I just have one question for you: Which do you like to read and/or write:
Love at first sight?
or
Love that grows slowly over time?
Both?
I’m a “grows slowly over time” type reader and writer.
Have a great week everyone!
Between you, me and the gatepost,
Loree

I'm slightly embarrased to say I've never been much for chick flicks, books or Harlequin romances till I read Nathan Jorgenson's "Waiting For White Horses." A chick book for guys (ok it had a lot of huntin and fishin in it). Now I'm hooked. :)
The adult novels that I enjoy the most contain relationships that begin as a friendship, and develop into love later, as the story unfolds. (I love your photo, Loree!)
Gorgeous photo, Loree. I like both kind of stories. :)
I like both! Often I think it's like-at-first-sight with a love that grows. Love that. I also enjoy a good can't-stand-at-first-sight that grows into love. :)
Argh!!! Such a tough question!!! I probably enjoy the love that grows over time the most but the love at first sight is right up there. :)
I can read both, because both happened in my personal story. For hubby it was love at first sight, he feels as strongly for me as he did the day we met (or so he claims. :-) For me, however, it was a gradual process. I didn't even like him when we met.
I guess that explains why I wrote John and Louisa's love story the way I did -- John fell hard and fast, but it was a process for Louisa. I know there are readers that do NOT like "love at first sight" story lines, so I did try to balance John's feelings with frustration and doubt. I'm sure that if my book is published critics will be all over their love story as "unbelievable". But hey -- it happened to me. What else can I do but write what I know? ;-)
I love a good love story, but I believe attraction happens initially and love grows over time.
Both for sure. There's a certain magic in each and I believe they both can happen.
I like a quick attraction, but love that builds! Have a great week!
I like both, though I tend to write about love at first sight. My characters just don't know it yet, lol.
I'm a fan of both. I love when there's an initial attraction, but the couple has to go through a winding journey to love. (Wow, that sounded awfully flowery, didn't it?) :)
trout: haha! Fishing and hunting and romance! Sounds perfect!
Victoria: That picture was taken from my sister's deck. I also like friendships that turn into love as the story unfolds...that's my real life romance.
Sandra: That photo turned out great. Congrats on you second novel release this month!
Melissa: haha! I do like those "can't-stand-at-first-sight that grows into love" too. :)
Tori: I do like both...but lean toward the grows over time...Nice book cover on your debut novel.
Gwen: How awesome that your hubby loved you at first sight! I think love sometimes sneaks up on you when you least expect it.
Keli: I'm with you there - I love a good love story!
Cindy: For sure they both can happen! I do love both.
Jessica: That seems to be one most people like.
Brandi: I love when the characters don't know it until it grabs them by surprise! lol
Sarah: Flowery? Yeah, maybe a little bit...but that's okay. I like the winding journey to love too.
Thanks for stopping in everyone! I really enjoyed your comments.
Me too, Loree. Slowly but surely. It's the anticipation the pulls me in and keeps me there.
Isn't Aspen gorgeous?!
Hi, new follower here. :) I definitely like love that grows slowly over time. In fact, I even like couples that hate each other at first, but eventually fall in love.
Jayne: Love the anticipation! I do love Aspen - just gorgeous.
Shelly: Hi there! And welcome here! I do like the "hate you at first and love you in the end" romances too.
Jayne and Shelly, thanks for popping in!
I like a little bit of love at first sight ... and then seeing it deepen over the long haul. And if there's animosity at first, there has to be a believable transition into falling in love.
I prefer love that develops and grows. It adds more tension and intrigue to the story that I am reading. However, it's always nice when there is that spark of interest or chemistry right from the beginning.
I've gone both ways in two separate stores. Oh wait.. I've also used both in the one manuscript. I don't have a preference as long as there is a kind of growth of appreciation in there somewhere.
I kind of love it when the characters can't stand each other in the beginning and end up falling in love. Maybe that makes me a little twisted. Lol!
Love that grows slowly over time. It's much more romantic and realistic. LAFS is based too much on feelings and flesh. It rarely lasts.
Pretty much all my books are the love growing slowly kind - probably because that's how it was for my hubby and me. :) But I do think it would be fun to write a love at first sight story.
Beth: I agree with the believable transition if there is animosity in the beginning. It must be believable.
Cynthia: I do love the spark or chemistry right from the start.
Lynda: Both in one manuscript? Now that's romance!
Julie: You're not twisted at all. It's just fun with tension.
Jeanette: Even though I like both, I do prefer the grows slowly over time. I do agree the LAFS can be ruled by feelings.
Stacy: Love growing slowly is always a test of faith and patience.
Thanks for dropping by and chiming in!
I love them both. Love in general is perfect!
I'm definitely a love grows over time sort of girl. Probably because I'm cynical and my own personal romance was hate at first sight, so the love thing in an instant I find hard to believe! LOL (FYI - the hatred did wane after time and turn into a wedding, but let's face it ... it wasn't pretty to start with) :)
Deana: You're right - love is awesome!
Jaime: I love that you had a "hate at first sight" and married him!
Deana and Jaime: Thanks for stopping by. I loved reading your comments today.
Both. In real life, Beloved and I met online and were officially engaged (as in ring) within three months. :)
Susan: Thanks for sharing that story! Very romantic. I know several people who have met online and have the happiest of marriages and/or relationships. I'm sorry I didn't see your comment until now. Thanks for sharing!
